Documenting with Crocodoc

on 6/20/2011

Crocodoc was founded by the same group of MIT entrepreneurs behind WebNotes, an acclaimed research management tool used by academics and professionals around the world to collect, organize, and share information online. We are based in Silicon Valley and Boston.

Crocodoc is funded by Y Combinator and other investors including Dave McClure, Joshua Schachter, Paul Buchheit, Steve Chen, and XG Ventures.

Sharing and reviewing documents and presentations with others can be quite a pain. Crocodoc was built to change that, alleviating the need to email attachments back and forth, print and pass around hard copies, or install expensive collaboration software.

Crocodoc takes your PDFs, Word documents, and PowerPoint presentations, and lets you view and mark them up online. Documents can be shared with others, who can collaboratively highlight or strikeout text, add notes and comments, and make revisions. All files are stored securely on our servers, and can be password protected and encrypted for maximum security.

Crocodoc is a very useful tool for students who are doing their term papers, thesis papers, literary criticisms, and other kinds of documents. What made us say that it is very useful? Let us admit that in one way or another we find it hard to edit or revise our documents or mark important points as we read through texts. In terms of editing, we have to it the long way where we need to delete sentences then replace those wrong sentences or statements with a revised one. In terms of marking important points, we need to remember where a particular statement, phrase or sentence that caught our attention was in the text. We need to note down what page and paragraph in order for us to know where those important statements were in the text. These problems on editing or highlighting an important part of a text is solved by Crocodoc. By just uploading the document in the application, it will be easy for you to edit and mark important things through the tools of the applications and it does not take so much of your time unlike doing everything manually. This application is online and all for free and its steps on using it is very easy to understand.

The group has evaluated this application as a very useful tool for students. Students are provided with an application that will help them editing and analyzing texts easily and in a short period of time.
